Whether you have obtained your real estate license recently or have decades of experience, you are eligible to apply to become a real estate instructor. Having the opportunity to share your experience with new real estate students through teaching, coaching or mentoring can be very rewarding.

How To Become A Real Estate Instructor
Real Estate School Instructor Requirements for licensure in the State of Florida
"School instructor" means an individual who instructs persons in the classroom in noncredit college courses in a college, university, or community college, or courses in an area technical center or proprietary real estate school. Where the course or courses to be taught are prescribed by the FREC precedent to licensure or renewal as a real estate sales associate or broker, the applicant must certify their competency and obtain an instructor permit by meeting one of the following requirements:
1. Hold a bachelor's degree in a business-related subject (such as real estate, finance, accounting, business administration, or its equivalent) and hold a valid broker's license in this state.
2. Hold a bachelor's degree, have extensive real estate experience (as defined by rule) and hold a valid broker's license in this state.
3. Pass an Instructor Examination approved by the FREC.
4. Submit a completed DBPR RE 6-Become Active-Real Estate Instructor form to register as a Real Estate Instructor for a real estate school.
5. The continuing education requirement for a real estate instructor is a minimum of 7 classroom hours of instruction in real estate subjects or instructional techniques as prescribed by the FREC.
Step 1: DBPR Application
You will need to apply for your real estate license with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Approval of this application takes on average 1-2 weeks, but can take longer in special circumstances. The maximum waiting period for an approval is 90 days. You cannot schedule your state exam until this application is filed.

Florida Real Estate License Application Requirements:
- Be at least 18 Years Old
- Have a High School Diploma or it's Equivalent
- Posses a US Social Security Number (Get a US SSN Here)
Step 2: Fingerprinting
As part of the instructor application process, the Florida Real Estate Commission (FREC) requires a new background check be completed. You will need to submit fingerprints to the Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) for the background check to begin.
Step 3: Schedule State Exam
Once your application is approved, you'll be able to schedule your state exam. The state exam is offered everyday however, we recommend scheduling in advance as there is often a 1-2 week waiting period.
